Last post we left off at Module 4 and the great bonuses that are included as part of this great learning program.

The way the training works is this: you open an introductory video, then go to the study guide. The guide has written information as well as videos along the way to illustrate the lesson. And, it’s in the study guide where you find the bonus supporting material.

How To Research An Idea For Your Internet Business – 7 Simple Steps

So you want to start an internet business but have no idea or only a general idea of what you want to sell.

This article will explain how to research your idea ( or how to find one if you dont have any idea), how to find if there is a market for your idea that will make money for you, how much money you could potentially make with your idea, and whether there is room for growth in your business.

7 Simple Steps

1) If you have no idea what you want to market, you must generate some ideas. Choose something that you are passionate about.

You want success? Then it is easier to be successful at something that you enjoy and that you will look forward to every day.

Brainstorm all the hobbies/ passions/ anything which interests you. Let’s say you have an African macaw ( which is a bird if you didn’t know!).

You like looking after him/her and it is a real pleasure for you to do this on a daily basis….So now you have an idea.

2) Since this is a hobby of yours, you must have a general knowledge in the area of African macaws (to continue the analogy above).

If you need more knowlege, that shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a subject you love.

Now for the second brainstorming session. On a sheet of paper write down everything you can think of about anything related to your area of interest.

You want as many ideas as possible. One of them will lead you to develop a product that you will potentially be selling on your website.

For African macaws, (I will use the abbreviation A.m for African macaw), let’s say you come up with a list including the following:

A.m food/diet, handling your A.m, training your A.m, A.m postcards/posters, suppliers of A.m’s, breeding your A.m, secrets of long-lived A.m’s (yes they can live up to 55 years!), cages/aviarys/perches, social behaviour of A.m, toys/playthings for your A.m, common illnesses of an A.m and what to look out for, different species of macaw.

Now that is a list of only twelve. You should try and come up with more for your own idea.

3) Now you have several target ideas in your area of interest. You want to test your idea now to see if it’s something a majority of people are interested in.

You want enough of a demand for your idea so that it will eventually be profitable for you. This is called niche marketing- targeting a particular market and not trying to sell many different products to many people.

Go to several major search engines and type in these words "word popularity search."

You should get a list of websites which offer a free service where you can type in several keywords for your area of interest, in our case, any keywords such as African macaw and diet/toys/illnesses etc.

The website will then return the popularity of those keywords by telling you how many people searched on those terms at their site or on the major search engines. If you can count on your hand the number of people who are looking for your keywords, then there may not be much of a demand for a product centered around your idea.

4) Is your idea totally original? Most likely someone before you will have had that idea and will have created a website about it because there are literally millions of websites out there.

What you want to do now is again go to any of the major search engines and type in several of the keywords relating to your idea. Up will come a list of websites, some of them will be major competitors to you. Pick out a few that rank high on the search engine and write them down.

Now go back to the search engine and type in the words "traffic ranking" and you will get a listing of websites that when you go to them will give you the ranking of those websites you just wrote down.

By ranking I mean the popularity of that websites against all the other websites on the internet. This is by no means 100% accurate but it does give you an indication out of millions how popular the website is that relates to your idea. You can even get details about the number of visitors to the website and the number of page views for the site.

5) So you have come this far and found some websites ranking high in your area.

Most of them will be of two forms: either competitor websites selling products similar to your intended product, or Portal sites.

Portal sites generally don’t sell anything. They usually have a bunch of links and advertising on them and sometimes have some good content. The more portal sites in your target area the better, up to a point.

Important points:

When you search for your keywords on a search engine, you don’t want it to return a million search results. Your market may be very oversaturated. But having Portal sites is a good sign. You can use these sites later to help build your business.

Similarly, when you do a keyword popularity search as in Step 3) above, you don’t want hundreds of thousands of people searching for the same product.

There is too much competition.

6) Now just because a website is popular or ranks high doesn’t mean that it is profitable.

How much could you potentially make with your new idea if you converted it into a product and developed a website around it?

Simple. Go to any of your competitor’s websites. Check out their products and their prices.

If they have been around a while (this can be verified by doing a "whois" search for their website to find out when their website was registered), then most likely they have established relationships with customers who have bought from them in the past. People have paid money for their products – they will most likely buy from you as well if you sell a similar product of equal or greater perceived and real value.

7) Once you are established in your target market, you may want to expand the target market to include related products.

Going back to my African macaw (can you tell I like them?), if I initially sold the best macaw bird cages, I may wish to grow my business by also selling the best food and parrot mix for macaws or by selling posters of different macaw species.

Growth of your business is essential for long term survival.

This is another aspect to consider when entering a targeted market. You don’t want it to be a fad.

There are two excellent ways to find out if there is a market for growing your niche:

a) perform a keyword popularity search (as in step 3 above) for related targeted keywords. If there is a demand for related ideas, you’re in luck for future growth. If you’re struggling to find related keywords, go through another brainstorming session or perform a internet search for "keyword mapping" for sites that will assist you.

b) look at what other competitors are selling. It’s a good bet that if they are ranked high and they have expanded their niche, then there is a demand for what they are "selling."

In summary, you want the following characteristics for an idea which can turn profitable:

- targeted for a specific market
– idea can be turned into a popular product
– intended target market is not oversaturated
– price for potential profit forecasts.
– room for expansion/growth.

Internet marketing is a new place with the same old purpose. When I first learned about Internet marketing, it felt as if I had been there, done that. I reached back in time to find how Internet marketing today was something I already did, years ago. I was a nerdy kid who was more interested in commerce than dolls. I persuaded my dad to help me setup a lemonade stand on the lawn in front of our one-story home. I mixed up a batch of fresh squeezed lemonade, grabbed my mother’s favorite milk glasses, and hung up a cardboard sign with the words, "Lemonade 10." I greeted my first customer within the hour. It was fun stuffing all those ‘In God We Trust" dollar bills into an old cigar box.

Today, dollar bills fly across space and deposit themselves into my bank account. That’s different! But commerce is still the exciting challenge that left my dolls unattended on the shelf. The Internet has opened up endless possibilities for commerce. And just like the sign I hung up years ago, we still put signs out to attract buyers. It’s not so different.

You meet people, show them your wares, let them know why your lemonade tastes better than anyone else’s and after they buy a glass and take a sip, they come back for more. It is such a simple concept, it’s a wonder why so many marketers make it sound so confusing.

Think of Internet marketing as if you were tacking up a sign on your lemonade stand. Now, think of your website as your lemonade stand. It’s easy to see that all you have to do to attract more customers is hang up lots of signs all over the neighborhood. Now, picture yourself standing on your front lawn as cars speed by and no one stops to buy a glass of your frosty lemonade. That’s what happens when you don’t put out any signs.

There are many places where you post your advertising sign on the Internet. Google, Yahoo!, Ask.com are well known hot spots to post your sign. It’s called pay-per-click advertising. You rent sign space, but pay only when someone clicks your link and lands on your web site page. What if you get hundreds of clicks at $1.00 each. Yikes! That can add up. But it is a real sunny day when the visitors that come from each click, engage your offers and become a new business contact. That’s a lot of lemonade!

But what if people land on your web page and don’t like the color of your lemonade. Sales conversions will be low to non existent. So before you hang out any signs inviting customers to your website, do a sales checkup. You want the words on your web pages to show and tell visitors just how tasty your offers are. And what if I wrote those words in a foreign language. People would be confused, and so would search engines. And the beauty of search engine optimization is you get free clicks. It’s like posting signs all over the Internet inviting customers to come and buy a glass of lemonade. But in this instance, all your posts are free. You don’t pay for the clicks you get. How cool is that!!

Internet marketing may be a mystery to you, and you may not even know enough about it to even consider it as a necessary arrow in your marketing quiver. Who wants to run up a credit card on this unknown thing called Internet marketing. Unfortunately, this nebulous selling environment is it. It’s the place. Your website is the new lemonade stand, and Internet marketing attracts buyers.

We meet and we both benefit. We still have that in common. If you have a website, check your web pages for substance and sales persuasion, optimize key pages and start marketing online. Post those signs. Let people know how good your lemonade is.

As you know, selling in internet is a totally different scenario compared to selling from a physical store. Internet selling requires both parties (seller and buyer) to trust each other before a sale is made. In a physical store, one will only buy a product when he/she has already touch the product, but in internet world, buyer need to pay the seller first before he/she gets the product later. So, stated your guarantee to your buyer is critical to risen up their confident on you.

Forth, don’t forget to give your reader a call to action. When you have stated all the necessary stuff into your pre-sale page, now you will need to inform or we called it a "reminder" to your buyer to action NOW.. This is crutial as buyer normally need "calling" to be awaked. By having this calling to action, buyer will start to make decision of whether to buy or not. You can always write your last sentence in the pre-sale page as this:: "I’ve barely scratched the surface of what the product has to offer. 5 Ways To Make Money On The Internet

1. Sell your own product.

It has been said that everyone is an expert on something. Think about the things you know well, and ask yourself whether someone would be interested in learning that. Alternatively, if you feel you are not an expert in anything that people would pay to learn about, then spend some time doing research. Once you have the information on hand, put it into an e-book, or better still put it on audio or video files. Create a sales page for it, and a page from which people can download the product, then promote it and wait for the sales.

Pros: You have complete control over everything – product, price, sales pitch, the lot. You also have a unique product that is being sold by you alone (and your affiliates, should you choose to develop an affiliate program.)

Cons: There can be a great deal of work involved, not only creating the product but in testing the sales copy and promoting the site.

Tip: You don’t have to do everything yourself. Outsource wherever possible.

2. Sell someone else’s product.

For a relatively small amount, you can purchase a product with Resale Rights. This means that you can legally sell the product to other people. You still need to build a sales page and download page, and you still need to promote the site. The only difference from selling your own product is that you have not had to create it.
Pros: You do not have the work of researching and creating the product.

Cons: Potentially thousands of other internet marketers are selling the same product. However, this does not have to be as great a problem as it might seem at first. Think of it this way: if you were selling a physical book, would your bookshop be the only one selling that title? Of course not!

Tip: Often Resale Rights products come with a pre-made web site. Don’t use it. It’s ok for your product to be available in a zillion places on the web, but your salesletter should be yours and yours alone.

3. Affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketers drive people to someone else’s product for a commission on the sales. There are thousands of affiliate programs available, in every niche from internet marketing to golf and from travel to pet care. One of the best ways to find programs, particularly for beginners, is through Click Bank. Use their search tool to find products that interest you, then create content sites around those products, using links to direct prospects to the product site. You can also promote affiliate products through article marketing, and some will allow you to promote them directly by Pay Per Click (but check their terms first, as some programs reserve certain keywords that you may not use for PPC.)

Pros: You did not have to create either the product or the sales letter. You are not responsible for returns or refunds. All you have to do is send people to the product site.
Cons: You have no control over the product or the price. Also, sometimes affiliate products are withdrawn, so you have to check regularly.

Tip: Don’t try to promote a zillion products at once. Pick a few and work systematically to get them as much exposure as possible.

4. Google Adsense.

Adsense in the reverse side of the Adwords PPC program. You build a website with good content, and place a small piece of code from Google on the site. Google then serves up ads that relate to your content (sometimes the relationship is closer than at others). When someone clicks on one of those ads, you are paid a percentage of what Google receives for the click. The trick is to produce really good, relevant content that people want to read – remember, they are not coming to your site just to click on ads!

Pros: You don’t have to find products to promote, Google does it automatically.
Cons: If someone abuses the ads on your site by multiple clicks, Google can consider it as spamming and disable your account. However, there is software available that allows you to avoid this problem.

Tip: Sites like Squidoo and HubPages allow you to create mini sites without having to worry about buying a domain name or web hosting, and they share with you the revenue from Adsense on the pages you create.

5. Build a list.

By far the best way to earn money on line, and one that combines some of the others, is to build a mailing list of potential customers. Develop a newsletter that offers regular, helpful and informative content, and make sure that you have a subscription form on every page of your web site. Within that e-zine, you can include links to your own product, a Resale Rights product you are selling, an affiliate product that you are promoting, or even a content site where you have Adsense. People may only visit your web site once, but as long as you provide content they want to read, they will keep receiving your newsletter every week (or however often you publish it.)
Pros: Allows you to promote any offer or site you want. Keeps reaching people.
Cons: You have to come up with content every issue, and you have to keep up the standard so that people will want to read. (However, as in creating your own product, you can outsource.)

Tip: As an added incentive for people to sign up, offer a free e-book or some other product – but make sure they can’t get it till they have confirmed their subscription.
